If you live in Victoria you're probably wondering the same thing as me - who the hell is this Bizarre 'Lady in White' who appears at every busy intersection; is at every cross walk and every place I turn, there she is, bearing a huge poster in her hand that says "I am Singer Angel". One day I saw her dancing across a pedestrian crossing. I nearly crashed the car looking at her. This neatly dressed Asian lady with her serious expression looks like she belongs more behind the wheel of a flashy Lexus, than standing on the street telling the world she is "singer Angel".
In the space of just one day - Saturday in fact, I began to realize something I've always known - people are really fascinating! Strange, peculiar, bizarre, courageous, traditional, gutzy and always a mystery!
Firstly, there was the mysterious 'Lexus Lady in White' who took the Bizarre title. Then I passed a very interesting Hasidic Jewish father walking tall and proudly with his two little girls. I have seen him several Saturdays at 9.30 a.m. and he intrigues me, simply because he looks so mysterious. His little girls were dressed like little dolls from their expensive designer dresses right down to their glossy little shoes. He is a real grown-up daddy with his big black hat, long side burns and heavy dark woolen coat. Every time I see him he brings back so many happy memories of my time in Israel and visits to Jerusalem. He took the Mysterious and Traditional title.
Next I heard a story on the radio of a very courageous man in Missouri USA who during the recent tornado gave his life away to save others. He definitely took the Courageous title for the day.
Later on I had an interview at the Moss St. Community Market. I got chatting with a young industrious mum. Her initiative and entrepreneurial spirit really inspired me. Her dream was to be self-employed so she could look after her baby boy and work from home at the same time. Using re-cycled materials she creates purses, bags, etc. and sells them at various markets. She took the Gutzy and Inspiring title for the day, which also goes to another AMAZING lady I later encountered.
I came across her story again as I was tidying out my home office. It was true what my calendar's message for the day said 'One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is constantly making exciting discoveries'. My exciting discovery was a newspaper clipping I had kept for some time because it inspired me. It told the story of an 87 year old lady who had just got her degree.
The message was 'you're never too old to learn'. Shirley Ruttle had completed her degree in 5 years instead of 4 as she had to take a year out for hip replacement surgery. Despite a recent 'solo' trip around India, she found herself bored at 81. She decided to pursue her dream of getting a University degree which had been stalled when World War 11 broke out. This gutzy lady's story was so inspiring!
Listening to a show on the internet today about 'Spiritual Warriors', I would say all the above deserve that title. Are you a Spiritual Warrior? If not, go out and MAKE SOME NOISE!! Follow your passion! Or as Bette Midler puts it 'treasure what's unique about you, because without it, you're just a yawn!'

FREEZE THAT MOMENT...!!!
So there I was in the kitchen, up to my eyeballs in dishwashing liquid, scrubbing away at the pots and pans. Kevin had the radio tuned into a classy French station, which made a pleasant change from the usual high energy 'pep- pop' I usually listen to. Ella Fitzgerald, my all time favourite songstress was singing a Johnny Mathis number when Lo and Behold! my song birds Sonny and Cher began to join in. The Angels in heaven could not have performed as beautifully. I had to stop what I was doing, which was no hardship anyway, and listen to this chorus from heaven. That's the moment I wanted to freeze not the pot scrubbing! They were perfectly in tune with Ella and sang all the way to the end of the song, without stopping for a breath.
The best thing I ever did was to move them upstairs. I was down in the bowels of the basement last Friday paying them a visit, and letting Tessa the cat out for a prowl. It was such a beautiful day and I felt really sorry for the two of them sitting in the darkness with no sunshine coming their way. It was cruelty to birds, especially since I heard that the Chinese bring their birds for daily walks in their cages. Ever since I heard that, I've been feeling mighty guilty. So, in the weakness of the moment, I brought them up and put them out in the garden to enjoy the sunshine. They loved it so much I hadn't the heart to bring them back down to the dungeon. So they are permanent residents in the kitchen now.
Well, the two of them have rewarded me each day with songs more glorious than you could dream of. To wake up each morning - rain or shine - and hear them chirping away happily in the kitchen, makes me feel like I am snoozing under a tree in Hawaii, on a hot summer's day...you know that feeling. Every day is a summer's day. They are SO happy to be thick in the action of the kitchen, listening to the dogs and the radio and the smells and sounds emanating from all around them. The other day they were enthralled at the sight of some robins making a nest in the tree directly in front of their window. That's the plus side...The not-so-plus side is they are MESSY beyond my wildest nightmares. They spread their feathers and food and other stuff and if you're not careful, it could land in your mouth. But for now I think they are worth the mess and I joyfully...yes joyfully! clean up their mess on a daily basis, in exchange for a couple of cheery songs. If there was such a thing as a talent show for birds, they'd win beaks down!!
Talk about talent shows - this week saw the finale of my two favourites - 'Dancing with the Stars' and tonight's 'American Idol'. I was glad Kim won the dancing trophy but not as fond of her partner Hines. Talk about positive thinking - he said he had envisaged himself winning the trophy and so he did! When I heard Scotty was a Libra - though I did not need to be told - I knew he would win the 'American Idol'. He is charm personified! Wherever you have a Libra, their charm wins hands down. His voice was a bit freaky though because the minute he opened his mouth, he sounded like he had borrowed his father's voice - weird to hear such a mature voice coming from a 17 year old! Still he is gorgeous - well not really gorgeous - it's his killer smile - a Libra trademark. And yes, he can sing even if his voice is a bit old for him.
Another ending today when Oprah had her last show after 25 years. It was a bit surreal to watch her. The end was bitter sweet, though she said, in between fighting back the tears, that it was all sweet and no bitterness at all. I liked her last sentence "It's not goodbye, but rather 'until we meet again'. Which we will on OWN. So I guess it wasn't a farewell as such.
Just as well all my fav. programs have ended for the summer...I was thinking to myself as I went to turn off the telly. The ads got in the way of the remote.
No such luck! The T.V. wasn't going to release its biggest fan just like that! It quickly lured me back in again - DRAT! - Television these days is so addictive. Such a feast for couchers like me. When they told me 'America has got Talent' and 'X Factor' were on the way - I knew I was hooked! That's why my ironing is piling up. Still...I guess I could iron and watch t.v. at the same time and the basement has a t.v. in the gym...O.K. no excuses! I can't blame my couchiness on the television!
Between Oprah and American Idol - they have 'robbed' me of my time. Hey T.V. - You must be a Libra - your charm disarms me!!
Adios mes amigos!

'A house is not a home when yer loved ones is gon'
I was singing along with Puff Daddy this morning - If you'll excuse the pun, he really was bang on the money - dirty or not! His song 'I'm coming home, coming home tell the world I'm coming home...touched a chord. Especially the part that went 'A house is not a home when yer loved ones is gone' cause that's exactly what I'm feeling right now with Victoria and Alexandra in Europe. This house of ours feels even bigger..what on earth will it feel like when Claudia is gone! A situation all Mama Bears have to face one day...As they say 'I'll cross that bridge when I get to it'. Hopefully, I'll be crossing it and not jumping off it!
Even though it's Day 3 since Vicky left, Chi Chi is still not herself. Each night she goes into Vicky's bedroom to check if she is back and spends some time in mourning under her bed. After about an hour or so, she knocks on our door to be let in. I get her 'visitor cushion' ready for her and she sleeps on the floor beside our bed. Unfortunately, she snores like a drunken sailor - Incredibly loud for such a tiny mutt! Our bedroom is now a meeting place for all the lonely hearts.
It was 'Mommy business' as usual after work and school today. I brought Claudia out for a driving lesson. Unfortunately, I was more of a hindrance than a help. It was a beautiful sunny evening, so perfect for the task at hand. Except...there were far too many distractions! As we drove through the eerily quiet neighbourhoods, I became curious as to what went on behind all the perfectly manicured lawns and closed doors.
'Ahh look' I say to Claudia 'What a nice daddy playing football with his son' He looked such a perfect daddy. I wondered was he one of those tortured souls whose daddy never played with him when he was a child, and he was determined he would not repeat the sins of his father. Or was he trying to avoid the dishes tonight?
Next I saw a yummy mummy jogging with her baby in tow - you know those jogging prams the actors in Hollywood use. Tom Cruise was the first man I ever saw using one. But then the question is - Is he a man? I dunno. Back to the jogging pram. If I was a baby again I would hate my Mummy to be yummy. I would prefer her to be fat and jolly and walking at an easy pace, and stopping to goo goo and gaa gaa with me every few minutes. I dunno how on earth babies can sleep with the driver going at such a pace! I suppose it's one way of getting their workout too! And if I'm not sleeping I wouldn't like to be looking out at mummy's sweaty tortured visage.
Talk about prams...the next sight we saw, on our 'Driving Lesson', was a sweet little old lady walking her granddaughter in a pink pram. 'Aaaah Claudia looook...over there the little lady with a.....WHAT! No Claudia did not crash the car when I roared in her ears. The WHAT? was because the sweet little granny lady was not wheeling a baby in her cute pink pram but a DOG! I kid you not. She had a huge brown dog in the pram with his paws coming over the side. 'Why on earth would you bring your dog for a walk like that?' Claudia sensibly asked. Why on earth? I dunno - maybe her dog is her baby. Maybe she is a seasoned 'empty nester'. It got me thinking...
Now I know how I'll entertain myself when my chicks have all left the nest... I'll get a nice orange coloured pram - not the joggy ones that make you sweat - but rather a sweet little double buggy for each of my mutts, with rattles and doggy treats galore. YEAH! I'll not be jumping over bridges, but rather crossing over them going goo goo and ga ga with my four legged babies...Ah! Positive Ideation is what it's all about!

Who Says Dogs Don't Have Feelings... :(
For days before Victoria's departure for Europe, Chi Chi was beside herself with grief. She would wrap herself around Vicky's ankles and cuddle up even closer in bed at night. Lulu went one step further and hid in her suitcase. Her little head looked so cute sticking up from beneath blue jeans and t-shirts. No such luck Lulu - we found you!
Friday the 13th was not such a great start for Vicky! We arrived at the airport to discover that her 11.00 flight to Vancouver had been cancelled. The 12.00 flight was already full with a waiting list. Considering Vicky's flight for London left at 2.00 and the gates closed at 1.05 p.m. in Vancouver - things were not looking good. I made a fuss - as only mothers do. In fairness to Vicky - she handled it all like the little lady that she is - with calm determination. She took it upon herself to ask people on the 12.00 p.m. if they would swap with her for the 12.30 flight. Then the airline offered a free lunch to whoever would swap. For my part I prayed my guts out to the powers that be in heaven. We left the airport not knowing if she would get on the 12.00 flight. In addition she had to check her bags onto the London flight, which would add more stress to her journey.
Thank goodness for blackberry phones. Claudia kept in constant contact with Vicky as we drove back into town. I prayed and Claudia texted. Then just as we were passing St. Andrew's Cathedral at 11.40 Claudia roared "YEAH! she got on!" I couldn't get down on my knees and thank God as I was driving, but they sure knew I appreciated them taking us out of a very tight spot!
I went back into the office to catch up on work and Claudia had some errands to do. Then it was back home as I had Don my computer man coming to fix the printer up to my new gorgeous Green Goddess Sony laptop. Just as I got in the door, I heard Lulu moaning outside. Can you believe she had been locked out in the back for all the time we were away! Friday the 13th wasn't good for her either! She was starving and shaking in terror and after she had gobbled up a bowl of dog food, she raced up to my bed and went under the duvet.
As Don was sorting out my computer I had an unexpected call from Shirley a lady who had bought my book 'Children of the Stars'. She wants me to appear on her radio show next Saturday the 21st. It is a program for parents. I have never been on the radio before so it should be fun and a new experience. I will have a half an hour to talk child astrology and my book! As well as that good news, I had a nice cheque from Bolen's Book shop paying me for the books they had sold. So as always, Friday the 13th was good for me! I must be the only person in the world who likes Friday the 13th. I dropped off some books at a new age store here in Victoria and the owner Val gave me some free tickets to an energy expo. this weekend.
All was well until I went to bed this evening. I had a job trying to catch Chi Chi. She went under Vicky's bed and would not come out. I could not sleep thinking of how miserable and sad she was without Vicky so I went back in and caught her by the collar and she was crying. Her little eyes were wet with tears - I kid you not! I brought her into our bedroom and cuddled and hugged her for a while. Then come 3.00 a.m. she started howling like a bleedin' banshee. We could not sleep - What a night!
This morning the sun was shining. I dropped Claudia off to her Drivewise driving school for the day where she will learn how to be as good a driver as her mum! I went home and brought Chi Chi and Lulu for a fabulous long walk to their favourite place - Government House where Charles and Camilla stayed when they visited Victoria. They love it there because the lamp posts and trees have a very high class aroma. Only pure breds pee at Government House.
Now Chi Chi is all happy again. She knows I feel sorry for her so she is milking it for all it is worth! She has put on 10 lbs. since Vicky left yesterday. She is such an emotional eater. She'll be fine...
But NOT US!! We all watched the Eurovision this evening. NOOOOOOOO
Jedward did not win for Ireland! They came in 7th. Boo Hoo! We loved Spain's song and they didn't do well at all which was surprising. I also loved Italy's song. They came second but should have won.
No more news this end. Thankfully Chi Chi has settled down again. Poor little thing. She just loves Vicky and misses her so much - as we all do!
If you are reading this in England Vicky - HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY - and don't worry, Chi Chi is doing o.k. She had a t-bone steak, croquette potatoes and a pint of Guinness for supper. She'll be fine! Don't worry. Tomorrow we'll bring her to the Empress Hotel for sniffs.
Love y'all!

Rain drops keep falling on my head...
and Starbucks coffee and water and salmon and car cleaning fluid and rain for that matter!
The sky really was falling yesterday... I know how Chicken Little must have felt. It began first thing in the morning when a plate of juicy salmon, balanced precariously in the fridge, fell out and spilled all over the floor and fridge door. The dogs raced down the stairs immediately. They knew in an instant the sound of opportunity. Within seconds they had lapped up all the salmon and licked the plate clean. That is when dogs really come in handy!
Later in the morning I was putting fuel in the car and decided to get a car wash. I go for the luxury ones as I just love the sight of all that coloured creamy popcorn pouring down the windscreen. Yesterday it was a beautiful rainbow of turquoise and pink. So there I was thoroughly enjoying the car wash and listening to my favourite song - Adele's 'Rolling in the deep' (ironic!) when lo and behold I felt the pitter patter of raindrops on my head. It was only when I got out of the car wash I made the horrible discovery that the sun roof on my car wasn't properly closed, leaving the back seats wet with big blobs of soapy water...EEEEK!
It continued to be a wet wet day with a Starbucks coconut drink spilling on Victoria, my water bottle spilling all over the floor and table in my office not least of all the RAIN!
This evening there were tears of sadness shed by many a woman when I attended a slide show given by Women helping Women. It told the very very sad story of how girls in Malawi, Africa are suffering. You have to check it out on http://www.malawigirlsonthemove.com/ to learn about how the APU school in Malawi is changing lives, one girl at a time. There is going to be a cocktail party here in Victoria on June 5th to raise funds for the school. Looking at the slide show and listening to the passionate presenter, an ex teacher by the name of Christie, it made me realize how lucky we are and how much we take for granted here in Canada. Most of the girls in Malawi had to leave school at 14 to support their families and were pregnant at 15 - married to men they did not know or love - just to raise funds for their family. Not all of them were lucky to survive their pregnancy, due to malnourishment.
After the Malawi event, I was so upset when I went home, and could not go directly to bed as I knew I was too pumped up to sleep, so I turned on the television and the shopping channel happened to be on. Some fellow was selling the most useless contraption I had ever seen - it looked like ear phones with a light attached to it. What the? Maybe if you only had an outside loo miles down the field, at the back of your house...you know those holes in the ground loos like those poor girls in Malawi probably have...that is the only use I could think for that weird looking object, the price of it would educate a girl in Malawi for a year probably. It sure made me think.
To all of you reading this, check out their website and let your heart do the thinking...maybe you, or somebody you know could organise a FUNdraiser for those poor girls - WHO - but for the grace of God could be YOU, your sisters, mothers, friends.
If you are reading this Lori - thank you for bringing me to visit the Malawai girls school last night.
Hell - it sure was one wet day yesterday!
Love you, love yourselves, and love and pray for the Malawi girls, and all the girls around the world, suffering in similar circumstances.

Mothers...Where would we be without them?
The answer to that is we wouldn't 'Be'. They gave us life, fed us, burped us, nagged us, changed us (the nappies that is), loved us and Yes - it has to be said Mums are Special! Whether yours was a Pageant or a Tiger breed, or a cuddly duddly 'eat up your butty baba' mum - you know the type - she still puts a hot water bottle in her 50 year old divorced son's bed, and wraps his pyjamas around it, ever since he returned to her, when that "B.... of a wife threw him out" - She's still your Mama! As in the words of an old maudlin Irish tune, which my daddy loved to hum: -
"love her while she's living, though feeble old and grey - you'll never miss a mother's love 'til she's buried beneath the clay". That song would bring a tear, even to a Tiger moma's eye.
I am happy to say I LOVE MY MOMMY! She is good, kind. beautiful, perfectionistic, nagging (Virgo! whatcha expect?) - the nagging which she does for my own good, or so I like to think. As I speak she is lying in a hospital bed in Dublin...waiting...and waiting and wondering..."What will be the end of me?"
None of us know. We can only pray and hope. That is why this Mother's Day was extra special for me. I got to celebrate it twice. The first time in Ireland on April 3rd with my Mother in our family home. It was the first time since I became a mother myself 22 years ago, that I got to celebrate a Mother's Day with my Momma, which meant a lot to me. In Canada we celebrate on a different date than Ireland, much to my chagrin,
When I returned to Canada, I had another special Mother's Day waiting to be enjoyed and boy did I milk it for all it was worth "Hey guys, empty the dishwasher...it's Moma's Day..." "Walk the dogs...it's Moma's Day..." "Empty the dryer.. it's Moma's Day..." In fairness to my lovely ladies - they did it all and MORE. I awoke to the sniff of a big huge box of chocolates under my nose, a gorgeous blouse from Ralph, my fav. designer which was OTT but I love it and am wearing it as I write and they assured me they "got in on sale mum". I only like Ralph on a 50% deal. Their special greeting cards are now on the wall in my kitchen so I can enjoy them on a daily basis. I even got one from the mutts - Lulu, Chi Chi, Tessa and Sonny and Cher, my love birds who put on a great performance, God bless their little hearts.
When I read their card, and saw the little animal prints on it, I forgot about all the times I cursed them from here to eternity for pooing, peeing, vomiting, clawing and shedding on the furniture, not to mention the times the Vet robbed me, they gobbled the meat left carelessly on the table and 'all' my Jimmy Choos (lol). Still, I'm keeping them - my animal kingdom are more precious to me than any Persian rug. They give me the LOVE. And when I look at Lulu happily snoozing in the sun I say to myself 'That gal sure knows how to live - just hang loose! That's the lesson my pets teach me - unconditional love and just 'hang loose' Mama.
After the celebrations this past Sunday, I was energised to clean out some clutter, going back aeons. I found a charming little poetry book and I don't know where it came from. It is called 'In the Kitchen'. I sat in the sun with my sensible little dog Lulu, and took some time out to enjoy the contents. I loved this little poem which sums up mothers for me. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
REWARD
"I haven't accomplished a thing", she said,
"In all this day I just baked bread,
I patted a dog with a stepped-on tail,
And baked a pie for a charity sale.
"I wasted an hour climbing hills
But I found arbutus and daffodils.
And a neighbour who was ill and
couldn't get out and about
Was glad to know that the flowers are out.
"I made some jam...it's a funny rule
But children are fond of it after school.
And I sat and talked to the man I hired
to plant new grass...he looked so tired.
"I wish I had something worthwhile to show
For the hurrying way the hours go."
But the Angel who looks after women who cook
Put her down for a star in His great golden book.
So to all you Moma Bears out there - whether you are a Mom to animals, or your own children, I wish you a Wonderful Mother's Year - a day is not enough!

That girl is SO dangerous...I've seen her type before!!!
![]() |
They say that after time, a dog begins to resemble its owner but hey! this is ridiculous. I'd sit AT a table not ON it! The above sight is what greeted me this morning when I came in from my power walk, feeling all tingly and delighted with myself. How could I be cross with Tallulah Conchita a.k.a. 'Lulu' when she's good - knowing there was no butter in that dish she was tenaciously trying to uncover with her nose! Just as well she didn't persist because if she broke that gorgeous Italian pottery given to me by Cindy Delve I may not have been so polite. The question is...How the hell did she get up there on my kitchen table in the first place? When the cat's away the mice sure PLAY... But then Lulu is a Taurus, so she is patient and persistent, and had probably been working out a strategy, between herself and Chi Chi for months, as to how she could get up on the table to eat the sugar and lick the butter. She would have had to hopscotch from the Welsh Dresser like a cat which she is not...hmm. She would need wings - which she doesn't have - AHA -now I get it - a fairy or an angel came to her rescue...'That girl is so dangerous...I've seen her type before'. That's the song that was playing on the radio when I came in and caught her.
Alas, I'm partial to the same pleasures as Lulu - eating the sugar and licking the butter. That's why I was out pounding the Chip Trail this morning - my first time in weeks and boy was I stiff! From a health standpoint, I have used up every single one of my brownie points for good behaviour and now the tank is empty and dry and needs to be replenished...with good intentions if nothing else.
As all the beautiful young people glided past me on the chip trail, their tanned well toned limbs glistening in the early morning sun - I felt KRAP! I felt the way my car does when it is out of petrol and just running on 'Limbo' - the bit after 'the warning', just before the car conks out from dehydration - that's how I felt - just chugging along and praying I'd make the end of the 35 mins. walk before running out of steam. Then magic happened! I bumped into an Italian who had worked on my house years ago. He recognized me ! - don't know how he did? Wonders never cease "Hey Patricia - great to see you - are you running next week?" he asked (yeah right as IF I'd be running a TK!!). "Actually No" I confessed "I'm just back from Ireland and the food over there is divine...the vegetables taste like vegetables and the fish tastes and smells like fish and the brown bread and butter and sausages..." I could see he was impressed as he likes his food too. Then the stallion starts to give me 'the look' - You know the one that says 'hey good lookin' whatcha got cookin'. (there's nothing like a bit of innocent delusion!). I let him know I was on a 'tight' fitness regime (lol) after my prolonged period of exercise drought. We said our "Cheers have a great day" as he ran off about his business. Suddenly, after that interlude I didn't feel so KRAPPY after all.
Nothing like a cheery word - a friendly glance - to stop the mind being mean to its owner. It's true for the bumper sticker I nearly crashed into one morning "You're not always what you think!"
Have a great day and remember age is mind over matter - as long as YOU don't mind - it doesn't matter!
Cheery bye bye,

Never a dull moment thanks be to goodness...!!
First thing that caught my eye on the Globe and Mail yesterday was a full page ad for British Airways with a huge photo of Buckingham Palace and a caption above it which read THERE IS STILL ONE PRINCE LEFT...book your flights to London NOW starting at...In that split second - the time it took to read the ad - Anticipation bounced back into my heart again and joyfully filled the void left since Will's wedding. I had sort of forgotten about Harry but now plans are underway for the next wedding... Rumours of a flirtation with Pippa were flying around the palace but hastily quashed by insiders - the same ones who said that Pippa was a right bossy boots. I think Chelsea has enough feist in her to keep the romance sizzling with Harry. So now take heart - we have another wedding in the works and babies on the way from Wills and Kate. Apparently Kate really admires Angelina Jolie. She and William want to adopt a little baby from abroad, as well as having a brood of their own and they just can't wait to get started.
After scanning the Sunday newspapers K and I watched the Late Late Show from Ireland on the internet - a favourite Sunday morning tradition, along with the coffee. They were discussing Sex Addiction and had an American addict talking about how it had destroyed his marriage and almost destroyed his life, until he got help. Then I began to think about Tiger Woods and was starting to feel sorry for him until Kevin interjected "The only thing that destroyed Tiger was getting caught". Apparently while he was bed hopping his game was at an all time high and he was scoring in every direction. It is only since they put the chastity belt on him that his game has deteriorated". I'm not a golfer but I gather there is some truth in that. My only question to myself and to others is 'how do you know the difference between a 'true' addict or an ass-hole in one? Like I mean womanizers and serial cheaters can crawl back to their wives with their tails between their legs and beg forgiveness on the grounds "I'm a sex addict". How do you know? Maybe there is many a marriage that could have been saved if the cheater had got 'proper' help. How does one really ever know?
We're all addicted to something - It keeps us sane. I'm addicted to chocolate and flea markets - in no particular order. That is what I was thinking to myself as we drove to Langford yesterday to visit the flea market. It was a beautiful sunny Sunday morning and the day stretched deliciously ahead of us. K wanted to get plants and shrubs for the garden. I didn't have anything particular on my wish list but that's the great thing about flea markets - you just never know what treasure you'll unearth. There's always something to catch your eye and with no taxes to pay, it's a steal of a deal! I ended up buying an adorable dog house for the chihuahuas. Never used for $15. SO cute and washable too - pale pink with little dark pink paw prints all over - just perfect for Lulu and Chi Chi. They love it and both can fit in it. Now there is a bit of a fight going on. The minute Chi Chi leaves the 'Pink House' Lulu jumps in to claim it. I also managed to find a fabulous red vintage crocodile skin hand bag for $20 - so 'Mad Men'esque. It is an original 1950's bag and was made in Canada - so unusual as nearly everything you buy now is made in China. A pair of vintage 1960's citrus green earrings for $6 completed the feast. Ah...the joy of Flea Markets - the thrill of the find - the thrill of a bargain - the thrill!!
Later that evening we were watching 'The Apprentice'. Donald Trump a.k.a. 'The Donald' was in 'foul' humour, especially since Pres. Obama publicly humiliated him at a recent event. Dee Donald has skin as thin as ice and does not like when the joke is on him. Obama was making a jibe about the big fuss Trump had made about his birth cert. and said if he had to worry about who next to fire on the Apprentice, he wouldn't be able to sleep at night! You should have seen Trump's face - he was like a BULL!! That same BULL face was just about to fire, either Star Jones or Nee Nee. You could cut the tension with a knife - when LO and BEHOLD a big notice appeared on our T.V. Screen - at the worst possible moment! - THE VERY WORST POSSIBLE MOMENT - to say that President Obama had a VERY important announcement to make to the United States...Hello? War with Libya? Trump? Iran? Our hearts began to pound with excitement. I still would have liked to know who got the chop on The Apprentice.
Vicky, Claudia and I took refuge in Kevin's cozy library so we could be all together as a family when news of World War 111 was being announced. It was right scary. While we were waiting for the announcement Kevin said he'd love a choc ice. Nobody would budge for fear they missed Obama. Yours truly - Me! as Always! had to race down to the gas station and buy the ice cream. I nearly crashed the car I was in such a hurry to get back. For all the good!! We waited... and... we waited... and we waited...Until FINALLY Obama came on to tell the world "WE GOT HIM!" Who? I wondered to myself. We already knew he'd aced it with Trump. "OSAMA BIN LADEN IS DEAD" he announced in his deep and deliciously masculine voice. There was no mistake! If he came on the air holding Osama's bloody head on a stick, I would have found it easier to believe him. But he didn't. It all seemed far fetched. We googled Osama and I was horrified to discover he was only days older than me!! "He looks like an old man!!" I said in disgust. Horrified that this 'auld one' was the same age as me. One of my beloved daughters (no name mentioned to protect her identity) piped up "If you let your beard grow Ma you'd look the same as him!" She sounded sincere. She was referring to the sad little 'wisps' on my chiny chin chin, the ones she has to tweeze for me as a punishment for not walking the dogs.
As I said...Never a Dull moment!!
Love you...and love one another.

The morning after the night before the Wedding...
I got up at 3.00 a.m. an hour later than I had intended. In fact 'got up' suggests I slept. I didn't sleep a wink, thanks to KFC and all its finger lickin' goodness which sat like a lump of lead in my tummy and made sleeping impossible. Maybe subconsciously that is why I chose it. Not wishing to wake up Kevin who had to work next morning, I spent the night in Vicky's bed with Chi Chi snuggled up between us. I never knew she snored like a horse. (Chi Chi that is) I dunno how Vicky can sleep with that noise. I suppose her softness and cuddliness more than makes up for the noise. When Vicky is away on her travels this summer, I'm stealing Chi Chi away to be my new hot water bottle. Lulu is going to be SO jealous!! Anyway when I got downstairs Wills and Kate had just arrived at the altar and they were about to start - with or without me.
The first thing I noticed were the dark rings beneath poor Kate's eyes. I found it so endearing. She must have had KFC too. God love her. I'd say the pressure must have been horrendous towards the end. When I saw her taking deep breaths and hyperventilating, I wanted to give her a big hug. Of course when the powers that be said she had done her own make-up, I felt like she was one of our own - and that's the power of Kate - she has united commoners and kings. The fact she is such a classy girl, it was effortless. Being a Capricorn, she was born with the ability to withstand pressure. That's why she was dubbed 'Waity Katie" Her astrological symbol - the goat climbing towards the summit - that's Kate. And now in William she has reached the summit. If you want to know 'will Kate be able to handle the heat?' just look at other Capricorn First Ladies - Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy - I think they are doing a fine job. Behind that elegant facade is a tough old goat with a gentle heart and a good down-to-earth no-nonsense attitude to life. Don't you feel if you were to meet Michelle or Kate at Starbuck's, they'd pass you the cream with a smile on their face?
As for Wills - I wish he had bucked tradition and opted to wear a ring. The way he pushed and shoved that ring on poor Kate, I could really feel her pain. I hope he will be equally determined to see it remain on her finger. By the looks of things, nothing short of a saw can remove it now. I loved his tribute to Michael Jackson and the Irish Guards in his choice of tuxedo. The Hollywood red looked so cheery beside the Queen's Canary yellow on the balcony. All the dull pale colours stood to the left, and the vivid strong colours on the right where the sun was shining. Did you notice? As for 'The kiss?' I would have preferred if they put the two together and had one proper one instead. Just my humble opinion...
My first reaction when I saw Beatrice and Eugenie was OMG - If it was their intention to look like the two ugly sisters in Cinderella - they were successful. Beatrice's electric shock of a hat looked like her large intestine had escaped and was sitting on her head. Something was wrong. Kate's mother's outfit was a tad boring. Unlike Camilla, she has the figure that can hug a suit and she didn't need to look so frumpy. I can see that she wanted to 'fit in' with the Royal brigade of heavy metal ladies. I think I would have preferred lilac on her. It would have looked nicer with the Queen's cheery easter chick yellow. Talk of heavy metal - it would have been easier to get blood from a lemon than to squeeze a smile out of a very dated looking Princess Anne. Where were all the designers??? David Cameron's wife...??? "Overwhelmed by their outfits" was a common reaction to many of the wedding party ladies.
Apart from the Phillip Treacy hat which failed to obscure her nose and worst feature, I liked Tara Palmer-Tomkinson's royal blue outfit the best. It was eye-catching and glamorous with the matching blue gloves and high heels. Poor Victoria Beckham looked anything but posh. Her teeny tiny hat made her baby bump seem ginormous. I dunno how she supported her baby and self on those enormous stilts of shoes. Her facial expression said it all. As for David, he couldn't take the smile off his face. Fancy being at the same wedding as the queen, and me a poor commoner with more tats than brains!
Sad moments for me - Lady Diana should have been there. She would love Kate and the two of them are an astrological soul-match made in heaven. I think in Kate, she arranged the perfect lady for Wills. The sadness of it...For Diana and for Kate. Other low moments from the wedding - Fergie should have been there. If they invited the local publican, boutique owner and butcher from Kate's village well then why not Fergie, Gordon Brown and Tony Blair? I mean Tony and the Queen got on so well when they were filming 'The Queen' together some years ago. The guest list was baffling to say the least.
Like all weddings and the hype beforehand, there is always that 'day after Christmas' feeling when it is all over. You feel emotionally drained and eager for a new fix of excitement to fill the void. Well Wills and Kate have seen to that. They didn't even take a honeymoon yet so they could get back to work asap. Now it is all about the baby...Yes I was hearing rumblings of babies before the wedding. I turned a deaf ear as I hate when they start talking Christmas before Halloween has even arrived. It is SO annoying.
Now, however, I am ready for the Baby talk. Bring it on...
Cheers from Victoria!
Love you,

Love you,
