FREEZE THAT MOMENT...!!!

So there I was in the kitchen, up to my eyeballs in dishwashing liquid, scrubbing away at the pots and pans. Kevin had the radio tuned into a classy French station, which made a pleasant change from the usual high energy 'pep- pop' I usually listen to.  Ella Fitzgerald, my all time favourite songstress was singing a Johnny Mathis number when Lo and Behold! my song birds Sonny and Cher began to join in. The Angels in heaven could not have performed as beautifully. I had to stop what I was doing, which was no hardship anyway, and listen to this chorus from heaven. That's the moment I wanted to freeze not the pot scrubbing! They were perfectly in tune with Ella and sang all the way to the end of the song, without stopping for a breath.

The best thing I ever did was to move them upstairs. I was down in the bowels of the basement last Friday paying them a visit, and letting Tessa the cat out for a prowl. It was such a beautiful day and I felt really sorry for the two of them sitting in the darkness with no sunshine coming their way. It was cruelty to birds, especially since I heard that the Chinese bring their birds for daily walks in their cages. Ever since I heard that, I've been feeling mighty guilty. So, in the weakness of the moment, I brought them up and put them out in the garden to enjoy the sunshine. They loved it so much I hadn't the heart to bring them back down to the dungeon. So they are permanent residents in the kitchen now.

Well, the two of them have rewarded me each day with songs more glorious than you could dream of. To wake up each morning - rain or shine - and hear them chirping away happily in the kitchen, makes me feel like I am snoozing under a tree in Hawaii, on a hot summer's day...you know that feeling. Every day is a summer's day. They are SO happy to be thick in the action of the kitchen, listening to the dogs and the radio and the smells and sounds emanating from all around them. The other day they were enthralled at the sight of some robins making a nest in the tree directly in front of their window. That's the plus side...The not-so-plus side is they are MESSY beyond my wildest nightmares. They spread their feathers and food and other stuff and if you're not careful, it could land in your mouth. But for now I think they are worth the mess and I joyfully...yes joyfully! clean up their mess on a daily basis, in exchange for a couple of cheery songs. If there was such a thing as a talent show for birds, they'd win beaks down!!

Talk about talent shows - this week saw the finale of my two favourites - 'Dancing with the Stars' and tonight's 'American Idol'. I was glad Kim won the dancing trophy but not as fond of her partner Hines. Talk about positive thinking - he said he had envisaged himself winning the trophy and so he did! When I heard Scotty was a Libra - though I did not need to be told - I knew he would win the 'American Idol'. He is charm personified! Wherever you have a Libra, their charm wins hands down. His voice was a bit freaky though because the minute he opened his mouth, he sounded like he had borrowed his father's voice - weird to hear such a mature voice coming from a 17 year old! Still he is gorgeous - well not really gorgeous - it's his killer smile - a Libra trademark. And yes, he can sing even if his voice is a bit old for him.

Another ending today when Oprah had her last show after 25 years. It was a bit surreal to watch her. The end was bitter sweet, though she said, in between fighting back the tears, that it was all sweet and no bitterness at all. I liked her last sentence "It's not goodbye, but rather 'until we meet again'. Which we will on OWN. So I guess it wasn't a farewell as such.

Just as well all my fav. programs have ended for the summer...I was thinking to myself as I went to turn off the telly. The ads got in the way of the remote.
No such luck! The T.V. wasn't going to release its biggest fan just like that! It quickly lured me back in again - DRAT! - Television these days is so addictive. Such a feast for couchers like me. When they told me  'America has got Talent' and 'X Factor' were on the way - I knew I was hooked! That's why my ironing is piling up. Still...I guess I could iron and watch t.v. at the same time and the basement has a t.v. in the gym...O.K. no excuses! I can't blame my couchiness on the television!

Between Oprah and American Idol - they have 'robbed' me of my time. Hey T.V. - You must be a Libra - your charm disarms me!!

Adios mes amigos!

Cheery bye bye,

Delisha xxx
