If you live in Victoria you're probably wondering the same thing as me - who the hell is this Bizarre 'Lady in White' who appears at every busy intersection; is at every cross walk and every place I turn, there she is, bearing a huge poster in her hand that says "I am Singer Angel". One day I saw her dancing across a pedestrian crossing. I nearly crashed the car looking at her. This neatly dressed Asian lady with her serious expression looks like she belongs more behind the wheel of a flashy Lexus, than standing on the street telling the world she is "singer Angel".
In the space of just one day - Saturday in fact, I began to realize something I've always known - people are really fascinating! Strange, peculiar, bizarre, courageous, traditional, gutzy and always a mystery!
Firstly, there was the mysterious 'Lexus Lady in White' who took the Bizarre title. Then I passed a very interesting Hasidic Jewish father walking tall and proudly with his two little girls. I have seen him several Saturdays at 9.30 a.m. and he intrigues me, simply because he looks so mysterious. His little girls were dressed like little dolls from their expensive designer dresses right down to their glossy little shoes. He is a real grown-up daddy with his big black hat, long side burns and heavy dark woolen coat. Every time I see him he brings back so many happy memories of my time in Israel and visits to Jerusalem. He took the Mysterious and Traditional title.
Next I heard a story on the radio of a very courageous man in Missouri USA who during the recent tornado gave his life away to save others. He definitely took the Courageous title for the day.
Later on I had an interview at the Moss St. Community Market. I got chatting with a young industrious mum. Her initiative and entrepreneurial spirit really inspired me. Her dream was to be self-employed so she could look after her baby boy and work from home at the same time. Using re-cycled materials she creates purses, bags, etc. and sells them at various markets. She took the Gutzy and Inspiring title for the day, which also goes to another AMAZING lady I later encountered.
I came across her story again as I was tidying out my home office. It was true what my calendar's message for the day said 'One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is constantly making exciting discoveries'. My exciting discovery was a newspaper clipping I had kept for some time because it inspired me. It told the story of an 87 year old lady who had just got her degree.
The message was 'you're never too old to learn'. Shirley Ruttle had completed her degree in 5 years instead of 4 as she had to take a year out for hip replacement surgery. Despite a recent 'solo' trip around India, she found herself bored at 81. She decided to pursue her dream of getting a University degree which had been stalled when World War 11 broke out. This gutzy lady's story was so inspiring!
Listening to a show on the internet today about 'Spiritual Warriors', I would say all the above deserve that title. Are you a Spiritual Warrior? If not, go out and MAKE SOME NOISE!! Follow your passion! Or as Bette Midler puts it 'treasure what's unique about you, because without it, you're just a yawn!'
